Art in Public Places Hitting Its Stride

The folks that brought the "Happies" sculptures to Fallbrook promise to do more of the same next year. Sandi LeMasters, chairman of the newly reorganized Art in Public Places division of the Fallbrook Center for the Arts Group, said her committee hopes to bring several pieces of public art to Fallbrook in 2010. "Our objective is to bring more art to be shared with the community" she said. The group successfully raised the $6,000 to purchase the "Happies" from Texas-based sculptor Barrett DeBusk. The brightly colored steel sculpture that depicts two people dancing had been on loan to the community. In support of bringing important pieces of art to the community LeMasters also wants to create an art corridor that will run from the new library on Alvarado Street to the Fallbrook School of the Arts. With a clear focus, the Art in Public Places group is planning on working with artists to expand it's art-on-loan program so that Fallbrook becomes a true art destination, said LeMasters. Her group also hopes to work on a master plan for the art corridor with the architect that will be enhancing the Fallbrook School of the Arts buildings. "We want the art corridor to be a showplace of public art pieces" she said.
